Norco RPC-4224 Build -- Drivers, Firmware, BIOS and Megaraid Manager

My Norco 4220 boxes are attached to Windows 7 computer, and I did not have to install any Chenbro drivers there to make the boxes work. As a result I missed this part when setting up 4224 on Windows XP computer. Megaraid Manager was not able to see any disks inserted into 4224 box at all, although Windows disk manager saw them with no problems.

To download Chenbro expander driver for Windows XP I used the top link among the drivers on this list:

http://www.chenbro.com/corporatesite/service_download_result.php?type=pro&mk=123&sk=

The driver is old, not signed and to install it I had to select driver  location and specify that the device belongs to "System devices" category.

After the driver has been properly installed, Megaraid Manager is able to see disks in Norco 4224 box, but I am not able to create arrays yet (getting 4004 error). It appears that firmware, BIOS, drivers etc for LSI 9212-4i4e controller which I bought only a bit over a month ago have to be updated.

Exchanging emails with LSI customer support.

Norco RPC-4224 Build -- the Build Mistake I Made

The wall of fans had to go back in before C-SFF8087-D cables were connected to the Chenbro expander, and redundant power connections from the Norco chassis were connected to the power supply. I made this mistake because in RPC-4220 chassis there was space underneath the fan wall where all the cables fit in. RPC-4224 is different -- cables have to go through the openings in the fan wall. Here is how it looks like now. Top part of the image shows a 2 pin power connector from the fan wall pluged into the power supply connector.

Norco RPC-4224 Build -- Time to Test

I plugged the power supply into a UPC unit and turned on power on the power supply. The top images shows one green light which came up. At this point I pressed "on" button on the front of the norco chassis. The bottom image shows the lights on. Now it is time to unplug the power supply again. The wall on fans will be put back in place as the next step.
